Music, Art & Fun this August in Cecil County

August is the time to take the boats out on the water and enjoy Cecil County's 220+ miles of shoreline as much as you can for as long as you can. Cecil County is the perfect place for a Stay-cation or for those who want to make a short trip and be miles away.

The Cecil County Farmer's Market continues on Fridays from 3 to 7 p.m. at the corner of Bow and Howard Streets in Elkton, as does Music on Main Street on Thursday nights in Elkton at the corner of Main and North Streets. Free concerts are also offered on Sundays in North East Town Park off Walnut Street and at the Pell Gardens overlooking the C&D Canal in Chesapeake City.

The Chesapeake City Town Hall Gallery features a number of artists in rotating exhibits throughout the month on weekends and the first week of August offers tax free shopping for certain items - visit www.cecilbusiness.org for details or check out the calendar of events on this website. Just look under "Play" and click on the calendar.

The Cecil County Arts Council's Sunny Side Up Exhibit is a perfect kick-off for August running from August 6 through September 10, with a reception August 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring artist Melissa Reese. Dove Valley Vineyward and Winery will hold their 2nd Annual Cecil Wine and Arts Festival August 7 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and August 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. featuring art, activities, local artists and craft vendors, silent auction, food, Dove Valley award-winning wine and live entertainment at 645 Harrington Rd., Rising Sun.

The following weekend it is all about the peaches with the annual Hart's Peach Festival at 3203 Turkey Point Rd., North East. Don't miss this event that starts at noon and features the most delicious peach pie, cobbler, ice cream and more all lovingly hand made from age old recipes. There will be other food items as well as live entertainment and more.

The Downtown Classic Car Shows revs engines on Thursday, August 26 on Main Street in Elkton and on North Street from 5 to 8 p.m., accomapnied by a free concert. Everything from classic cars to street rods, muscle cars to entertainment and food will be on hand in downtown Elkton. Stop by the Main Street Art Bazaar while you're there.

Another free concert comes by way of the United States Air Force Airmen of Note on August 28 at 6 p.m. at the Hart's Amphitheater, 3203 Turkey Point Rd., North East. Enjoy the music featuring big band, contemporary and classics from the swing era as you witness one of the most gorgeous views and sunsets in Cecil County.
